A new Rockefeller Foundation study suggests that nuclear technologies, including SMRs, could supply up to 30% of electricity in several high-growth economies by 2050, while easing system costs and reliability pressures...
Gary Bergstrom, a hedge fund manager, is yet another technically-expert and sophisticated investor willing to place a bet on advanced nuclear to solve for clean, inexpensive energy. He’s backing a plan to mass-produce small nuclear reactors at a shipyard in South Korea that can be delivered by sea. A planned demonstration model may cost as little as $1 billion, substantially less than the $20 billion that big projects can cost, and the designs may eventually produce electricity for about 3 cents a kilowatt-hour.
