Our Approach

Why invest with Nucleation Capital?

Nucleation Capital is the first venture fund to focus predominantly on advanced nuclear and is now in its 4th year of full-time fund operations and widely considered the leader. We bring deep technical nuclear knowledge, industry networks and investment expertise to building portfolios of the best ventures operating in this space. We have followed this sector for a long time and are prepared to help investors capitalize on the world’s urgent need to phase out fossil fuels with a deep understanding of Gen IV technologies, players and protocols for deploying advanced nuclear energy systems. Whether you want to invest $10,000 or $10,000,000, you’ve come to the right place. We can help you capitalize on one of the most significant technological disruptions of our lifetime: the transition from fossil fuels to zero-carbon nuclear energy. This isn't just an amazing investment opportunity, it's also the critical pathway for reducing the larger risks posed by climate change to your wealth and life.

Why Invest in Nuclear?

Atomic fission energy is the most dense and reliable type of power available to mankind, with an EROEI (energy return on energy invested) many times that of fossil fuels. It does not emit carbon and it is built to last. We are still getting almost 50% of all our clean energy from traditional nuclear power plants that were designed in the 1950s and '60s and built in the '70s and '80s. Today, as climate concerns rise, a new generation of nuclear energy is emerging—redesigned to be safer, smaller and manufactured using advanced technologies and 21st Century energy needs in mind. Already, sophisticated energy purchasers—Amazon, Google, Dow Chemical, Microsoft, Meta and Nucor—have placed orders for these Gen IV designs, which offer them a wider range of sizes and features but the same low-carbon and high-capacity power than was ever previously available.

This is a unique moment in time with a convergence of factors that finally favor the growth of nuclear power. For 150 years, human technological progress has enabled subsequent generations to enjoy lifestyles that were unimaginable to their own parents. Most all of which was powered by fossil fuels. But along the way, we've learned that burning fossil fuels causes heat to be retained in the atmosphere. Now, having already exceeded the level of heating thought to be maximumally permissible—1.5 °Celsius or 2.7 °Fahrenheit—the world must figure out how to replace fossil fuels. Or suffer increasingly dire and expensive climate impacts that include wildfires, heat waves, droughts, floods and other types of extreme weather.

The answer, for those who take time to learn, is nuclear power. Nuclear provides energy security, national security, economic and ecologic benefits. Over the last four administrations, federal support for commercialization of advanced nuclear has grown and garnered strong bipartisan Congressional support. Public sentiment has also grown and now many states are actively vying to attract the industry. Savvy investors have taken note that a deeper nuclear bench could well replace fossil fuel use in many discrete energy markets, not previously suitable for traditional nuclear. And, because nuclear provides good jobs and builds GDP, even local governements are motivated to provide attractive incentives which bolsters the private equity in these ventures. Although there are always risks to investing, here the risks of not investing may actually be higher.

A Technological Black Swan

According to Vinod Khosla, a “technological black swan”  is a technology that appears to emerge out of nowhere but in hindsight was obvious that it could provide disruptive, non-linear jumps. Only by investing in tecnological black swans—true innovation—can we address the twin challenges of climate change and energy production to meet the needs of 8 billion people coveting energy-rich lifestyles. We believe advanced nuclear will be the non-incremental, superior solution we need, if we allow it to scale.

Our 506(c) fund offerings

Nucleation utilizes the SEC's Rule 506(c) legal framework that allows us to promote our funds through an online presence, such as this website. This lets investors, who may be searching for a way to invest in nuclear, to find us. In exchange for permitting anyone in the public to find and learn about us, we are required to confirm that those applying to invest are accredited investors. Thank you for being willing to provide our fund custodian with the requisite financial information to enable us to ensure that only accredited investors are accepted into our funds.

Help Bend the Curve

Albert Einstein defined insanity as "doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different resutls." Wind and solar, as intermittent and incremental solutions, have failed to reduce global emissions—largely because they inevitably require gas back-up. We invite you to join us in trying something different—leveraging the power of the atom as the future source of firm clean energy to back-up other renewable sources in the global effort to phase out fossil fuels and eliminate CO₂ emissions.
