Nucleation Capital Fund I, launched in 2020, is an online subscription-based venture fund that brings deep nuclear industry expertise and networks to investing into the best ventures innovating critical clean energy and carbon-management technologies starting with next-generation advanced fission. We recognized that nuclear power—being brought into the 21st Century—is vital to the world's ability to transition away from fossil fuels to reduce their carbon and toxic particulate emissions without sacrificing energy reliability, security or affordability.

How it works

Prospective investors go to our Subscription Portal, review our fund materials and select a quarterly dollar level (from $2,500 to $250,000 per quarter) and number of quarters (4 or more) for an investment that works for them. Clicking the "Apply to Invest Now" button initiates account setup and accreditation by our fund custodian. If you qualify as an accredited investor, you may set up your account with one or more investing "entities," which can include your IRA, a self-directed IRA, trusts, client accounts and more. We then approve your application, apply the appropriate fee discounts and begin to build you (or your client) a structured portfolio of holdings starting right away. Going forward, investors fund their subscribed dollar amount each quarter. There are no extra "capital calls" for fees or expenses. Investors get guaranteed pro rata access to the equity of the investments we make during their subscribed quarters but not for prior or subsequent quarters. (Note: Fund access for those deemed not accredited is declined by our fund custodian but there's no cost or penalty for trying!)

Our Investment Approach

We invest with a "Profit First" goal and employ diversification as much as possible within our focused boutique thesis areas. Accordingly, we invest across sectors, technological approaches, verticals, venture stages, geography and more, selecting the best venture candidates and sizing our investments to adjust risk, widen exposure and diversify the timing of returns. We will evaluate fission, fusion, LENR, subcritical, radioisotope and other innovative nuclear (and climate service) technologies. We'll invest in primary reactor developers as well as vertical supply and support ventures building sector capacity, and we will re-invest in a venture's later rounds when we believe they are successfully meeting their milestones. Fund I provides low-cost venture capital access

Nucleation Fund I provides accredited investors with affordable (i.e. low minimum) and low-cost (no ordinary expenses charged to investors and fee discounts available) access to venture capital, an asset class traditionally out of reach for any but the wealthiest investors. We accept new investors on a rolling basis each quarter and work hard to optimize investor returns by offering occasional discounted syndicate investments. We are now making an average of two investments per quarter, so a 4-quarter subscription will produce a portfolio of about 8 to 10 equity positions. Subscribers should fund a quarterly amount that is approximately twice what you'd like to see invested per deal. As we invest, we send out deal-specific investment reports and provide annual reporting as well. Our fund custodian, Angellist Ventures, provides all investors with a full-featured client account, including account funding, portfolio tracking, customer support and K1 reporting via the Angellist platform. Angellist serves as Fund I's administrator and provides back-office support, custodial management of investor funds and assets, deal closing support, fee and return calculations and more.
